Tell us a bit about yourself? [we want the juicy gossip!]

Hello!, My name is Ileana and I have 3 year old daughter which is the world to me. Im a makeup enthusiast . I was born here in Puerto Rico but my parents are from Dominican Republic, yes I have "the mix" of both island hehe. I love listening music, Did I said I like makeup?, well, I like makeup!. lately I've been watching Korean dramas (soap operas, doramas,) for now Im a lil bit obsessed with their music and culture in general.Trying every day to be a good mother and a good citizen for my little and beautiful island Puerto Rico. 

How did you got started in the beauty blog world and what’s your blog about? 
It was 2 years ago at the sudden loss of my husband, one day I sat down to see YouTube (weird, huh?) all day long and I was super hooked on all this great community of gurus. I was amaze because I learned a lot to improve my makeup skills. As I've always liked buying cosmetics so I decided to open a space to share my ideas. If you can see, my blog is relatively new, but previously had other beauty blogs (which nobody read hahaha) and I decided to retake it again.

How can beauty product enthusiasts benefit from your blog's content?

Because I've lost a lot of money on things that didn't helped me at all hahaha. If I can help anyone with questions and doubts about X or Y product I will; think that through my experience I can recommend it to someone else.  Because are so many cosmetics out there, one can easily buy things compulsively. By visiting the blog people can find something helpful or interesting. 

Your blog includes a little bit of everything, which is your favorite subject to write about?

I love to review dupes, and products that really are worth. Love to do makeup on models, but is so hard to find it cause sometimes girlfriends have a busy schedule, so Im always on my quest of victims, I mean models, hahaha.

How do you balance mommy duties and work with blogging?

Hmmm it's complicated cause sometimes you can't have everything in the blog updated by all those responsibilities. But I think it's to identify the time or moment for blogging. I guess...

Advises you could give the ones that are new to the beauty blogging scene? 

(when taking pictures, when writing a review, taking criticism over their work)

Well, as I consider myself new, I could say to don't be discouraged. To take good pictures use natural light and always swatch. Write correctly and organize ideas clearly.

Describe the shopping spree of your dreams

Whoo child!, must be high-end all the way, You know MAC, MUFE, Benefit, Illamasqua all the good things baby! and for my little princess too, all that she wants.

Aside from beauty products, what other things you could easily blog about? 

About Music cause I'm a frustated musician. But mostly, about how crazy life is. I used to blog about my experiences working in a sex shop for around of 2yrs and half. But there's were so many stories and so many crazy things that could not keep them in a chronological order . You know that Jay Z and Kanye song when he said "That s*it cray!" It's really was!.

What things you think that makes a good blog?

Good, clear & precise content and good photos; specially if the author is a good person willing to interact with their readers on any subject.

Is there anything in the beauty community that you don't like?

Hmm, I think this is a great community of beauty blogger , but I think there are some people whom you admire for their work on their blogs (or videos) and when you interact with that person in a social media is totally different from what you thought, is a total letdown.

Most influential people in your life?
My mom for her strength and she always is supporting me in my projects.

worst trend: Ok, I have to say it!: Coloured eyebrows. Im so sorry for real but I hate it.

worst beauty product experience: It was with Sally Hansen Brazillian Wax Kit ... Hella painful!. Ugh you can imagine that kit is crap!. 

5 top advices when applying makeup: I am not a professional but I think these tips can help: Having a good attitude always helps to radiate a nice personality. If you're not going to wear makeup, use a good moisturizer with sunscreen, moisturize your lips with lip balm or lipgloss. If the smokey eye makeup is very soft lips lead. If you want to try a nice and cheap form of highlight on your cheeks try Cover Girl single eyeshadow in "Champagne" (is similar of NARS "Albatross") for that glowy look. Think less is more.

beauty sin: Concealer two or three shades lighter than your skin tone.

your go-to outfit:A good pair of jeans, wedge sandals and a "decent" and cute t-shirt in combination with a jacket, blazer, vest, you name it!.

love to eat: Sushi, pasta & ICE CREAM!

hate to do:Wash the dishes

Welcome back to Mondays of Beauty Profile. Today Dr Poly will take care of you!

First off, would you like to explain our readers why I called you Dr Poly?
HA! Well you called me Dr. Poly because I’m a medical student and my nickname is Poly. Back in high school I had a friend that has a cousin named Paola like me and her nickname was Poly. One day she started calling me that and it just stuck.

How did you get started in the beauty blog world and what’s your blog about? 
I had been following blogs and you tube gurus since 2006 and collecting beauty products, like makeup and nail polishes, for two years. Then one day I just decided to start blogging like a hobby, just doing it for me. I never expected to have more than 100 followers LOL. For some people that’s nothing but for me it's a huge milestone, since I’m not a professional in the beauty world.
My blog has a little bit of everything. I blog about makeup, nail polishes, skin care, diet/fitness, and soon I will start doing a women's health series.

How can beauty product enthusiasts benefit from your blog's content?
As I said, I’m not a professional. I'm just a regular girl that loves makeup and beauty related things. So, when people read my blog, they'll get honest opinions and reviews from an normal enthusiast, just like them.

Your blog includes a little bit of everything, which is your favorite subject to write about?
Right now, I’m very much into nail polishes, but I love to write about everything.

Love for beauty products many times is perceived by others as a "vanity thing" What could you say in its defense?
I don’t think that love for beauty products is a vanity thing at all. Why not love things that help enhance our beauty and gain more confidence?!

How do you balance your studies with blogging?
It’s really hard. For me blogging is a hobby so I do it when I have free time…almost never. What I do is, if I do my makeup to go out or paint my nails, I try to take pictures at that moment and when I have a chance I blog about them. I definitely wished I had more time because I truly enjoy blogging.

Advises you could give the ones that are new to the beauty blogging scene?
when taking pictures: Know your camera. You don’t need an expensive one. The key is to play with the settings.
when writing a review: Always write your honest opinion. Don’t write what you think people want to hear.
taking criticism over their work: Take the criticism as a way to improve your work…and remember not everyone is going to agree with you or like you.

Describe the shopping spree of your dreams
WOW! No limit credit card in a mall with MAC, Sephora, Lush, American Eagle, Macys and Saks Fith Avenue LOL

Aside from beauty, what other things you could easily blog about?
Health related things. I’m planning on starting a health series in which Ill be writing about breast examination, menopause, etc

Are there any things going on in the beauty blogging scene that you don't like? or even have discouraged you at times.
Jealousy!!!!! A have a really good friend that has been targeted with hate and bullying from other bloggers . I don’t like that at all.

My mom

1) Always use a base coat to prevent staining
2) Always use a top coat to prevent chipping
3) Even coats of nail polish dry faster.

One day I was studying at my school's library and this girl came up to me asking if I was Princess Poly. I felt famous for a moment.

Your face is your canvas ladies...Its really important to take good care of your skin with a moisturizer before you apply makeup.

Beauty Profile: Its not my life anymore

Hi beauties!
Monday already? but worry no more; here is another edition of Beauty Profile to save the day!
Today, featuring Noelia from Its not my life anymore - who I have declared The Sinful Colors queen!

How did you started in the beauty blog world and whats your blog about?
I started recently, on January of this year because I needed a place for myself. where I could be me. While searching on Google I found Chloe's Nails blog and I loved it. Since I was already addicted to nail polish and I changed the color of my nails a lot, I decided to take pics and start the blog. My blog is mainly about nail polish, but occasionally I might blog about my son or my life, or even clothes that I bought.

How does nail polish enthusiast can benefit from your blogs content?
They can see how the nail polish looks and decide if they want to buy it or not. I've had a couple of people saying that they where looking for a color on Google and ended up at my blog and when they saw the pics they liked it so they where going to buy it.

Do you know approximately how much hrs per week you dedicate to blogging?
I blog daily unless something happens that I can't make the entry. Hours per week? I really don't know. Most of my time is on Facebook. lol

When you are creating a post, what is the part that you like the most and the one you like the lesser?
I love taking the pics, even tho I get frustrated sometimes with my camera. I dislike writing. If you notice, most of my post are full of pics and have little words.

By now we know nail polish is your passion. What makes you love it?
I love how it makes the outfit. Specially for me since I'm always in dark colors, so with pink neon nails it looks so awesome.

Love for beauty products many times is perceived by others as a "vanity thing". What could you say in its defense?
I don't think that taking care of myself and wanting to look good it's vanity. I do it for myself, not for others.

Are your family and friends supportive of your passion and do they get involved in your blogging career?
Only my mom has seen the blog and she doesn't get it. She doesn't understand why I keep buying nail polish. And my friends, they support my addiction to polish and I even share it with some of them. Some of my guy friends make fun of me for it, but they are just joking around.

How did you manage being a single mom, blogging while you where studying?
I blog at night. Now, it's that I have more free time during the day since my mom is not working, but once she goes back, it's back to late night blogging. I used to study at night too. When my son is sleeping.

Advises you could give the ones that are new to the beauty blogging scene?
- when taking pictures: light is the most important thing! makes the difference.
- when writing a review: be honest.
- taking criticism over their work: take it has it comes. you will learn from it.

My life. What's going on with me.

Until now, nothing.

What means "me time" for Noelia -the mom-? 
Sleeping! hahaha Really, just spending time in my room watching TV or on the computer.

He loves to count them. Every time he sees one he starts saying "uno tres". Even at Walgreens.

Be yourself. Don't regret your life choices and ignore what people say about you.

How did you started in the beauty blog world and whats your blog about?
I started to read blogs in 2009 when my gaming pc was broken. By then I started to get inspired and after months I decided to make my own blog in 2010. I waited a bit until I could find a job so I could start buying new stuff.

How does nail polish enthusiast can benefit from your blogs content?
Well, I like to keep it simple and easy. I like photography, macro shots and I really enjoy taking pictures of my nails and the work I do. I'm really picky with good quality pictures, I always make sure everything looks like it should be.

Do you know approximately how much hrs per week you dedicate to blogging?
I could say... its can be a total of 3-4hrs per day.

When you are creating a post, what is the part that you like the most and the one you like the lesser?
I like the part when I post the pictures and talk about my experience. What I like lesser is when I have no idea how to name my posts.

As you said before, nail polish is your passion. What makes you love it?
I like all kind of arts. Makeup and nail art is a way of art. I like my nails to look pretty, nail polish is the perfect accessory to go with it always.

Love for beauty products many times is perceived by others as a "vanity thing" What could you say in its defense?
Is not vanity thing, if you love yourself, you would buy beauty products to give you some love. From Multi-Vitamins to makeup, everything is like a lil present for yourself, beauty and health.

Are your family and friends supportive of your passion and do they get involved in your blogging career?
No and yes. My sisters likes me to put makeup and paint their nails, but they don't like me taking photos for the blog, I have to be after them to check my blog links. My friends, well, they all starting to like nail polish lately! So excited to see they are getting into the polish and makeup world. Some of them have been on my blog already. They like my blog and check it sometimes. But they don't want me to get more makeup or nail polish D:

There is something from your day job or studies that have help you be a better beauty blogger? 
Yeah, I have seen a lot of beauty mistakes from other people, this helps me think "this girls need help" I also got inspired to make the "Job interview" post from them.

Advises you could give the ones that are new to the beauty blogging scene?
- when taking pictures: take them during daytime, under the sun (if possible) I notice my best pictures are taken outside in my backyard.

- when writing a review: Be honest. Don't be scare to say you don't like or you don't recommend. People like honesty no lies.

- taking criticism over their work: Take it as something positive, don't get sad, don't cry, is not the end of the world. We learn from good and bad. This helps us to be better in what we do.

Imagine you had the chance to create your own nail polish line: how it would be?
OMG! It would be fun! Lots of neon colors, glow in the dark, dark colors (Tim Burton inspired) lots of glitter!!! Every polish would have a glitter version.

How many polishes do you own? 
119, my friends count them last time they came here to "play Beauty" in my house, they even separate them by color, that was cute from them.

Aside from beauty, what other things you could easily blog about? 
I have another blog about my favorite PC game "Rappelz" Is like a small diary about what I like, whats new and my experiences.

Are there any things going on in the beauty blogging scene that you don't like? or even have discouraged you at times.
I don't like when PR lies about "no sending free products for review" but bloggers says otherwise... I would like them to be more honest about it, than lying in our faces, like if we were stupid.

Because there are other things besides nails and glitter; what else does Desiree loves and like to do for fun?
Hahahaha, I like to play with my cat, her name is Kelly, I also like to play Rappelz (Pc game) PS3 and be on facebook, my best friend call me a geek and nerd sometimes, I guess he is right! I also love to be with my friends and talk with them all day long.

Most influential people in your life?
My dad. He is Iron Man.

- if you could have only 3 nail polish for life: OPI DS Extravaganza, Sinfulcolors Feeling Great and Forget Now

- worst trend: those foils that you stick in your nail and gets ugly if you apply top coat and (some) Japanese nail art, I think is too much sometimes and nails looks heavy.
- worst beauty product experience: The first time i self waxed my legs... was painfully.

Any lesser know brand (s) that you would recommend to our readers? and why?
Nabi polishes are good, they smell a bit strong but I notice they are good. Dr. Remedy because it doesn't stink. Bettina, cheap and good.
